Acrylic Nails Effect on Natural Nails

Allergic reactions and nail safety

Most acrylic nails are safe and your natural nails won't be harmed. Some natural nails will have a discoloration on a very small level but the nails are still healthy. When acrylic nails are removed the natural nails may be coarse and ridged due to the process of applying the acrylic nails and the growth of the natural nail underneath.

Very rarely is there an allergic reaction to the ingredients used for acrylic nails. If you have a tendency to experience allergic reactions consult with the nail technician or beauty salon with the included ingredients prior to receiving service. If you experience some peeling around your nails, your nails are overly itchy, and redness an allergic reaction might have occurred so don't hesitiate to consult with your doctor.

A nail infection is cause for concern; infections most commonly occur when moisture is present in-between the acrylic nail and the natural nail. Bacteria can grow from the moisture between the nails creating an environment for fungi as well. Natural nails that are overly thickened and discolored should immediately be evaluated by your dermatologist.
